Observing nature
17 January 2022
Sometimes it’s nice to take a little break from your regular routine and sometimes it’s thrust upon you.
As with many of late, illness was thrust upon our household - mix that with a healthy dose of humidity and we opted for self preservation, incrementally building up energy again, whilst the ‘weeds’ built up a healthy desire to thrive.
Luckily the garden is perfectly content left to it’s own devices. Finally - these slim eggplant are happily producing the goods, plenty for customers to grill, stirfry with garlic, roast. I was apprehensive earlier in the season, unsure whether they would actually take off.
Gardening is SUCH a game of patience.
Just like these cabbage.
I’d heard we were in for a wet summer, probably a little cooler too. I’d read in soooo many places cabbages are a cool season crop, and although a little battle scarred - this one is looking like it’s going to make fabulous sauerkraut. If we had a really warm dry summer, chances are the cabbage wouldn’t have made it.
Healthy soil, patience good water (and I reckon a sprinkling of luck) make a garden sing.
